Q: Does baby signing speed or slow a child's time to talking?

I know a lot of child signing experts would probably say baby signing helps a child develop the mental ability to talk. However, I can't help but to think that signing may slow a child's time to talking. After all, what reason is there to speak if you have another way to express yourself. Thoughts?
