Q: Is it okay for me to eat fish while pregnant?

I have heard the many rumors that you aren't supposed to have any fish during pregnancy due to mercury poisoning. Is this true?

A: Yes, you can

In fact, it is healthy to eat fish during pregnancy - just don't go overboard. The reason that there is such a stigma against pregnant women eating fish is because some women who ate too much fish during pregnancy got mercury poisoning. This margin was very small and the women were eating A LOT of fish. So as long as you eat it in moderation ( a few times a week) it can be very healthy for your baby. Just stay away from fish that are "farmed". They usually aren't clean environments for the fish and I wouldn't recommend them for anyone, pregnant or not. Good luck and happy eating!
