Q: Is it okay to dye my hair while pregnant?

I don't think I'll look too pretty if I can't touch up those roots. Is it okay to use hair dye or will the chemicals harm my baby?

A: Wait until the second trimester

Your baby is most vulnerable during the first trimester, so I would stay away. Researchers say that they have not found any negative side effects of hair dye on baby development, but they also recommend waiting until the second trimester. Many women dye their hair while pregnant and there have been no direct correlations, so it is really up to how comfortable you feel.

A: I did it and my baby turned out fine

I dyed my hair a few times while pregnant and my pregnancy went off without a hitch. I have a very healthy baby. I dyed my own hair, so to be on the safe side, I made sure that I always did it in a well ventilated area and I had a friend do it for me because holding my arms up for too long made me dizzy. Plus, I didn't want to touch the dye in case that had any affect. Anyway, everything turned out fine. My friends have done the same thing and all their babies are fine. So dye-away girl!
