Q: How much does a nanny cost in the San Francisco Bay Area?

My wife and I both work. Given the cost of living in the Bay Area, I don't think this will change when our baby arrives. How much does a full time nanny cost a year in the Bay Area? ...I'm sure I'm in for some sticker shock here, but some candid answers would be awesome. Thanks for the help.

A: A good nanny in the Bay Area can cost $48,000 a year, including taxes.

This was the price that was quoted to us for the best nanny I know in the bay area (someone who worked in our extend family for years). That was for full time (~40 hours a week). Most of the cost depends on the number of hours. Experience also matters. I think a rough price range is $15 to $25 dollars an hour. ...It's a tough one. Obviously, it's hard to be a "value shopper" when thinking of your baby. : ) Hope this helps a little! Good luck and sorry for any sticker shock I may have caused!
