Q: What can I do to potty train my 3 year old son?

My 3 year old son has been potty trained with pee for a few months now but he still won't poop in the toilet. He proudly announces that he pooped in his underwear/pullups (whatever we are trying at the time). We have tried the long talks about how big boys poop in the toilet, to the point he knows them by heart and repeats them to us before we finish saying it for the billionth time. We have tried taking away his toys, tv, etc. We also tried a "treasure chest" of goodies and toys that he can only take from when he poops in the toilet. He says "I go poopoo in the toilet and not my underwear and then I get Optimus Prime from the treasure chest". So we know he understands, Yet he still won't do it. We have tried leaving him on the toilet when he streaks his undies but didn't fully go yet, one time we left him on there for 30 min, finally we gave up and let him off, within 5 min he pooped in his pants. I'm at the point now I'm contiplating spanking as a last resort. Help!
