Q: Do you have your kids call grownups Mr. and Ms. or Mrs.?

In California, I feel like it is pretty common that children refer to adults by their first names. What do people think of this? On the east coast, when I was growing up, children almost always referred to adults as Mr. and Ms. or Mrs. What do people think of this behavior? I am concerned that it diminishes respect for adults. But, I also feel a little strange making my kids call someone Mr. X when he asks them to call him by his first name. Thoughts?
